Building a new home is an exciting undertaking.
You are involved in design, layout, and the all-important task of selecting the right HVAC system to keep your Indiana home comfortable year-round.
The best time to integrate a heating and cooling system into your Central Indiana home is during its construction stage. You are free from structural limitations and retrofit issues that would otherwise restrict your choice.
A world of possibilities opens as you consider the ideal HVAC system for your needs.
You can select a well-designed HVAC system that saves energy, boosts indoor air quality (IAQ), and delivers savings on your utility bills. You have an opportunity to ensure your new home has a heating and cooling system that improves your home’s comfort and performance.

Choosing an HVAC System
Do you choose a standard system or a high-efficiency unit that substantially lowers your heating and cooling costs? Are you committed to a conventional system that burns fossil fuel or interested in shrinking your carbon footprint with all-electric HVAC?
You likely are most familiar with furnaces, air conditioners, and boilers. Here is a sampling of other popular options:
Air-Source Heat Pump: This system heats and cools, eliminating the need for a separate furnace and air conditioner. Like an air conditioner, the heat pump comprises an outdoor unit that houses a compressor and condenser coil and an indoor air handler with an evaporator coil and blower to circulate air throughout your home. Refrigerant lines connect the two units.
During warm weather, the heat pump extracts heat from your home and sends it outdoors via refrigerant. A reversing valve can change the refrigerant flow, allowing the heat pump to extract heat from outdoor air and send it indoors.
Cold climate heat pumps can work efficiently in temperatures as low as 5° Fahrenheit, making them ideal for our Indiana climate.
Hybrid System: This system combines a heat pump for heating during milder winter weather and cooling in the summer with a furnace for use in extremely cold weather. Also known as a dual-fuel system, this combination can help optimize energy consumption.
Ductless Mini Split: A mini split may be the perfect choice if you want temperature control over every room in your new home.
Like conventional heat pumps, mini splits transfer heat between an outdoor compressor unit and your home, using refrigerant. However, instead of one central air handler and ductwork, the mini split uses one or more indoor air handlers in the rooms throughout your home.
You gain room-by-room temperature control because each air handler has an independent thermostat. The system is highly efficient and does not require ductwork.
Geothermal: This system uses renewable energy from the Earth. The geothermal heat pump inside your home connects to liquid-filled pipes buried on your property. The pipes, called loops, serve as a heat exchanger and can exhaust or extract heat underground.
Temperatures underground remain stable even when the air above ground is frigid, making geothermal heating a good choice for areas with cold winter weather.
These systems are eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and have lower operating costs in the long run.
The Latest in HVAC Technology
Home construction is the perfect time to install the newest HVAC technology. You can select a system that is not only efficient but smart.
For example, smart thermostats and app-controlled HVAC systems allow you to adjust settings, get maintenance alerts, and view energy usage data from your smartphone.
Variable-speed motors improve efficiency. Rather than turning off and on during a heating or cooling cycle, these motors can adjust their speed depending on your home’s comfort needs.
Running at a lower speed for a longer period of time creates more consistent temperatures and better energy efficiency.
Our Blue Fox Heating, Cooling, & Plumbing experts can help you choose a system with advanced features and cutting-edge technology for maximum efficiency and comfort.
